Let’s learn about the delicious kinds of dates from all over the world!

Today’s trip is to the oases of dates in Africa and the Middle East. Ebastores will accompany us to explore the kinds of dates. Keep reading, you will be amazed by these miraculous fruits. Let us start our journey with a short-lived story, my grandmother being the heroine of the tale. My grandma loves to start her day with three dates every single morning. She never forgets to give all of us a long lecture about having dates daily. I was wondering why she would take this habit for years. Surprisingly enough, at the age of 80, my grandmother is still looking healthy and even younger than me. I am just teasing. She doesn’t suffer from any chronic diseases.

The habit of having dates goes back to our Islamic culture and our geographical location.

Dates are grown everywhere in Tunisia and North Africa. The Middle Eastern countries do have dates too. The consumption of dates is thus very popular especially during Ramadan, the month of fasting in the Islamic World. Back to my grandmother’s sophisticated prejudice, which is scientifically proven true, it is very beneficial to have dates.

Have you ever been to the supermarket to buy dates? What are the kinds of dates you have seen? Are you familiar with Deglet Noor?

Before we start, we would like to give you some recommendations:

Dates need to be pitted before usage, eating, or cooking

Keep dates tightly wrapped in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.

Dry dates which are packaged in plastic can be stored for 12 to 10 months

You should stay away from sticky and sugary dates.

Did you know?

·The peak season of dates is from mid-autumn to mid-winter.

·October through January in the northern hemisphere.

·The Middle East countries are ranked first to produce dates.

·California grows most of the dates in North America.

·Dates contain many types of antioxidants that prevent the development of many chronic illnesses, for instance, heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s, and diabetes.

Let’s learn about the kinds of dates!

Deglet Noor: It is called the queen of dates. This kind of date is best for cooking and for eating. Deglet Noor is so succulent; it has a sweet honey-like taste.

Medjool Dates: I love these dates so much. Have you tried it before? If No is your shortest answer, then you have to give it a try. You will be addicted to its honey-like taste. Furthermore, it is one of the most popular date kinds due to its sweet caramel taste and soft skin. You can find the Medjool palms in Palestine, California, South Africa, and the Middle East.

Mazafati Dates: you can easily find this variety of dates in Iran. Mazafati dates are a medium-sized soft date. It has also a dark flesh and is tasty to consume fresh. If you like to give someone a sweet like caramel, offer them Mazafati dates. You can have it as snacks too. These dates are an excellent combo of fiber, nutrients, and sweet goodness.

Thoory Dates: if you prefer dry dates like me, you should go for this variety. Unlike certain types of soft dates, Thoory dates have fairly dry skin. This means that if you look for a good snack, why don’t you try Thoory dates? This kind of date is named also as the bread dates.

Khadrawy Dates: If you are following a strict diet and trying to forget about the sugary taste. Here is your best option. These dates are rich but not sweet, flavored soft dates. Medium to large oblong fruit with orange-brown to light-brown skin and firm flesh.

Zahidi Dates: Medium-sized dates with smooth, glossy skin and golden-yellow and full of syrup. Used either for eating or cooking.

Mabroom Dates: This variety of dates is grown and very popular in Saudi Arabia. It looks like Ajwa dates. Besides, they have a long oblong shape. If you are not a fan of sweet food, here is your best serving of dates.

Ajwa Dates is a soft juicy variety of fruit that has a wonderful texture and sweet taste. This type of date is one of the most popular varieties produced in Saudi Arabia. Ajwa dates have almost black, wrinkly skin, and retain their softness well. I have tried this kind of date. It tastes good.

Maktoom Dates: is a large reddish-brown date (or Maktoum) variety. These Maktoom dates are delicious and not very sweet. You can enjoy them at any time of the day.
