Organic farming: tools and products

    Organic farming: tools and products

Organic farming is the strategy of cultivating and producing crops through natural and biological processes rather than using chemical fertilizers. The main objective of practicing organic husbandry is to develop sustainable and balanced enterprises that would also conserve the environment.

According to the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements, organic agriculture is ”a production system that sustains the health of soils, ecosystems, and people”.

Organic farming integrates convention, invention, and science to profit the environment. Organic norms mainly forbid crops of genetic engineering and animal cloning. The common standards of Organic gardening are conserving the environment, reducing pollution, and decreasing ground degradation to retain a long period of soil fertility.

Types of organic gardening:

There are two varieties of organic agriculture; pure and integrated organic gardening.

Pure organic:

It utilizes biological ways for cultivation. It entirely avoids inorganic elements that may hurt the ground, harvest, and the folk who consume it. In this procedure, agriculturalists utilize organic fertilizers and pesticides originating from natural sources.

Integrated organic farming:

It includes combining pest management and nutrients to attain ecological regulations and fulfill the financial demands.

Organic farming tools:

Organic agriculture attempts to cultivate the territory and grow crops in such a way that the quality of the soil gets boosted by utilizing organic waste. It aims at generating crops with high nutritional value.

Several organic farming tools include crop diversity, weed management, compost, soil management, controlling pests biologically, and green manure.

Crop diversity:

It is a farming tool where farmers do not develop the same crop on similar land every year, instead, they cultivate distinct crops in rotation to safeguard the fertility of the ground. Organic agriculture promotes crop diversity. Planting diverse vegetables, for example, supports a wider range of necessary insects, ground microorganisms, and other circumstances. Crop diversity boosts the environment to thrive and safeguards species from extinction. It is considered a positive farming technique that rejuvenates the soil quality.

Weed management:

Weed management encourages weed suppression by augmenting harvest competition. This organic method is considerably grouped as:

Tillage: This means turning the dirt between crops to integrate harvest residues and improvements and eliminate subsisting weed expansion.

Mowing or cutting: this tool means reducing the high growth of weeds through different ways, either by using heat to kill weeds or blocking weed emergence.

Green Manure:

Green manure means the dying grains which are uprooted and swiveled into the ground. These plants act as nutrients to the land that help in improving its fertility.

Compost:

It is evaluated as one of the promising natural fertilizers exploited in organic agriculture. Compost is distinguished as a recycled organic substance highly enhanced with nutrients that enrich the soil quality and promote production.

Soil management:

It is the initial rule of cultivation. After the cultivation of crops, the ground debilitates its quality since it loses its nutrients. This is why soil management is important to replenish the dirt with the essential nutrients.

Controlling pests biologically:

Lands are home to a lot of organisms that are very beneficial for crop growth and production. Other organisms, nevertheless, are harmful to crops. Farmers use biological herbicides and pesticides to control pests. In addition, farmers need to control the expansion and the growth of harmful elements to maintain the fertility of the soil.

Organic farming products:

Organic farming products are crops that are raised or grown without the use of coloring, synthetic chemicals, and genetic manipulation.

Organic farming products grow under a system of planting without the use of chemical fertilizers. This type of farming produces nutritious and prosperous products. Organic farming products are various. There is a diversity of organic products such as cereals, spices, cotton, tea, coffee, fruits, vegetables, pulses, eggs, milk, meat...etc.

All organic food grows without the use of synthetic pesticides. Some people find that organic food tastes better because it may be fresh especially if it is produced locally. Recent surveys show that organic food contains high levels of antioxidants and vitamins such as vitamin C, vitamin E. Also, it is considered a great source of zinc and iron.

Furthermore, studies show that organic crops have low levels of nitrate, which usually could lead to certain types of cancer. Besides, organic meat and milk may include a high level of omega3 (which may reduce the risk of heart disease) and carotenoids.

However, some other surveys find no difference between organic products and inorganic products. Still, many experts advise consuming products of organic farming since they do not contain chemical substances that may cause harm to the body.

In general, due to the natural tools of farming, organic products are very expensive. They cost much more money than non-organic products.
